Day 1 :
We travel from Cusco to Chahuares in private transport via the route Abra Malaga or Lares. The choice of route depends on the accessibility of the road and your preference. We leave Cusco at 7 am.
Route Abra Malaga:
From Cusco we travel to Ollantaytambo where we arrive at 9 am. Here you can enjoy an hour to an hour and a half of the beauty of this small town (we do not have time to visit the ruins but you can contemplate them from the town).
Then we drive to the Abra Malaga (at 4200 m altitude) and his traditional communities. Here, we will take a picnic.
In the afternoon we start our descend to Quillabamba (at 1000 m altitude), capital of the province “La Convencion” and city of eternal summer. During the ride you can enjoy the change of vegetation going from grasslands to tropical plants.
Before reaching Quillabamba, we make a stop at the ruins of Huamanmarca. We reach Quillabamba at 4 pm. We will not stay for long in the city but continue our trip to Chahuares (at 600 m altitude) where we arrive at 6 pm. Here you can take your dinner and rest in your bungalow.
Route Lares:
From Cusco we travel to Calca where we arrive at 8 am. We will not stay here for long but continue our trip via the Abra Lares, we make a stop at the thermal baths of Lares where we arrive at 11 am. Here you can enjoy a warm bath and we will take our picnic. At 1 pm we continue our travel during which you can observe some beautiful landscapes. At 7 pm we arrive at the city of Quellouno, capital of the district with the same name. We will not stay for long in the city but continue our trip to Chahuares (at 600 m altitude) where we arrive at 7.30 pm. Here you can take your dinner and rest in your bungalow.
Day 2: We start preparing the earth and sift it to remove the stones. After that we mix the earth with water and prepare the mud adding straw (and sometimes other materials). After that we start to trample on the mud barefoot (excellent therapy for foot relaxation and very good for arthritis) and we leave the mud to rest.
Day 3-4-5-6: We make bricks of earth (adobes) with the mud we prepared the second day and we leave them to dry.
Day 7-8-9: While the adobes are drying, we look for straw and wood for the roof. With a bit of luck, you can see some wildlife during your search. These days, you will also have the opportunity to do some excursions or other activities.
Day 10-11-12-13: We build the walls of the house with the adobes and a foundation of stones.
Day 14-15: We finish the house with the straw roof, supported by wooden poles.
Day 15: In the afternoon, we take you to Quillabamba where you take the bus to Cusco.
If you wish, you can stay a few days extra to enjoy a stay in your own made house.
